Dry Skin Brushing For Immune Health

Dry Brushing

It is well known that the skin is the largest organ in the body, and is responsible for one-fourth of the body’s detoxification each day, also making it one of the most important elimination organs. Toxicity can gather beneath the skin’s surface from such common influences such as improper pH levels in soaps, skin creams, antiperspirants, and foods.  Plus synthetic fibers worn next to the skin with any of them may contribute to a variety of skin problems and conditions.

When you do dry skin brushing, you help your lymph system to clean itself of the toxins that collect in the lymph glands. You use a simple technique to improve the surface circulation on the skin and keep the pores of the skin open, encouraging your body’s discharge of metabolic wastes, resulting in an improved ability to combat bacteria, while helping your skin to look and feel healthier and more resilient.  Skin brushing is a perfect self-care treatment.  You may use either a body brush or spa gloves. For best results, always wash the brush or gloves after each use. This is an excellent treatment to do right before an epsom salt bath.

Benefits:

  • Tightens skin
  • Helps digestion
  • Reduces cellulite
  • Stimulates circulation
  • Increases cell renewal
  • Cleans lymphatic system
  • Removes dead skin layers
  • Strengthens immune system

How to dry skin brush:

  • Begin with your feet and brush vigorously in circular motions.
  • Continue brushing up your legs.
  • Proceed to your hands and arms.
  • Brush your entire back and abdomen area, shoulders and neck.
  • Use circular counter-clockwise strokes on the abdomen.
  • Lightly brush the breasts, avoiding the nipples.
  • Brush upwards on the back and down from the neck. Better yet, have a friend, spouse or family member brush your back.

Easy Savory Sweet Potato Breakfast Bowl

Savory Sweet Potato Breakfast Bowl

Sometimes you just need a quick and easy breakfast with no drama. This is a shredded garnet yam pan-fried in avocado oil until soft. Topped with avocado of course. Sprinkled with Trader Joe’s Mushroom salt, Himalayan Sea Salt, Yellow Bird Jalapeno sauce and black cumin seeds (the smaller black dots) and black sesame seeds. Black cumin is anti-inflammatory, helps to lower LDL cholesterol, lower blood pressure, and lower blood glucose. It also happens to taste good.

Ingredients:

1 Yam shredded

1 Tablespoon Avocado Oil

Broccolini

1/2 Avocado

1/2 teaspoon Black Sesame Seeds

1/2 teaspoon Black Cumin Seeds

1 Teaspoon Trader Joe’s Mushroom Salt Powder

Yellow Bird Jalepeno Sauce or Sriracha to garnish

Method:

Peel and shred yam into long threads.

Pan fry yam shreds in avocado oil on medium heat stirring constantly until soft.

Toss in broccolini and cook until tender.

Sprinkle in mushroom salt.

Place in bowl and top with sesame and cumin seeds and serve with Sriracha and sea salt.

Fried eggs would also be great as a topping.

Enjoy!

NEW! Celluma LED Light Therapy at Merulli Acupuncture & Wellness

ACNE • SKIN REJUVENATION• PAIN

What is Light Therapy?

Light Emitting Diode (LED) phototherapy is the application of light energy to tissue to obtain therapeutic benefits.  The energy is used to improve cellular performance.

Phototherapy is known for its healing and anti-inflammatory properties and has a variety of applications across many medical fields.  Research has shown that phototherapy can: increase circulation, accelerate tissue repair, decrease wrinkles, decrease inflammation, improve skin tone and wrinkles, texture and clarity, ease muscle and joint pain, stiffness, spasm and arthritis and kill acne bacteria, and much more.

How Does Light Energy work?

Specific wavelengths of light energy, when properly absorbed, up-regulates compromised cells. The light (photons) energy is absorbed by photoacceptors in the mitochondria and used to create adenosine triphosphate (ATP). The ATP produced then stimulates various metabolic processes which can result in the repair and regeneration of cell and tissue components. In an article, “Therapeutic Light” – by Chukuku S. Enwemeka, PT, PhD, FACSM, he wrote “other reported mechanisms of light-induced beneficial effects include modulation of prostaglandin levels, alteration of somatosensory evoked potential and nerve conduction velocity, and hyperemia of treated tissues. The resultant clinical benefits include pain relief in conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, bursitis, tendonitis, ankle sprain, and temporomandibular joint dysfunction, shoulder and neck pain, arthritis, and post-herpetic neuralgia, as well as tissue repair in cases of diabetic ulcer, venous ulcer, mouth ulcer, fractures, tendon rupture, ligamentous, tear, torn cartilage, and nerve injury.”

What is Celluma?

Celluma is unique and quite unlike any other low-level light therapy device available today. Based on NASA research, Celluma delivers blue, red and near-infrared light energy simultaneously to safely treat a wide variety of conditions. Each wavelength is absorbedby different molecules that act as a signaling mechanism for different cellular processes. For example, some reduce inflammation and some kill bacteria, while others enhance localized circulation.

Celluma LED Light Therapy is available as an add-on service to any treatment at Merulli Acupuncture & Wellness.  Ask How Celluma May Benefit You & Your Family
