As we transition into the Fall and Winter season, I am reminded of how many people suffer from anxiety. Whether its from social pressures or the natural darker weather months, here are my top 11 anxiety tips:
Take a time-out. This little hack shouldn’t be limited to kids. Stepping back from a stressful situation or person will give you some perspective and allow you to think and respond more clearly.
Set boundaries. This goes for your time commitments, activities, friendships, work and health. Establishing boundaries is a form of self-respect and self-care.
Eat nutritional meals on schedule with your body’s needs. Keep healthy snacks like nuts and avocados around for a quick fuel source when you’re under pressure.
Limit stimulants such as alcohol and caffeine, which can aggravate anxiety.
Get proper sleep. Most people are sleep deprived. Try a calming Valerian or chamomile tea a few hours before bedtime. Melatonin supplements can be helpful if you start with a lose dose and increase as needed. Always ask your healthcare provider first about supplements and interactions with your current medications and health conditions.
Take a warm bath. Water can be very grounding for most people.
Exercise. Find a type of movement that is fun. Dance, walk, yoga, even walking around the block or up the stairs at work will help you rebalance.
Take deep breaths. Focus on exhaling out longer than you inhale. This will help calm and reset your nervous system.
Do the best you can and be kind to yourself.
Go outside. Even If the weather is gloomy, the fresh air will help rebalance your mood and move out stagnant energy.

While any acupuncture treatment will make you look and feel better, Cosmetic Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation specifically focuses on improving your appearance while simultaneously treating the underlying factors causing aging.
Cosmetic Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation includes body points to stimulate metabolism, whole body rejuvenation, and healing from within. This activates deep relaxation of the body and mind. Strategically placed facial points lift and tone the face, while stimulating collagen to fill in fine lines and soften skin.
What happens during each session?
During your first treatment, we will discuss your health history and treatment goals. I will then place the points and allow you to rest comfortably one the treatment table. Most people fall into a restorative sleep as I am placing the points. After I remove the points, you will receive a gentle face and scalp massage to promote further circulation and relaxation.
What is the course of treatment?
The first course of treatment is 12 sessions administered twice weekly followed by monthly or quarterly maintenance visits. Most people report they have a radiant glow and feel better after the first session. The effects become most noticeable and lasting around the seventh session. Everyone responds differently depending on his or her constitution and lifestyle. After the initial course of treatment, maintenance sessions prolong the results for 5-10 years.
You will receive tailored recommendations for at home care such as self-massage, exercise and healthy diet.
Do I need a separate series of treatments for each area of concern?
No. We will treat all your concerns at once.
I have studied three different styles of Cosmetic Acupuncture and have formulated my own protocol, customized to the individual. My treatment philosophy is to lift and tone all the facial and neck structures while promoting collagen and elastin to flourish in the tissues. I also “spot” treat the specific areas of concern as this varies with everyone.
Does it really work?
A 1996 report in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture reported that among 300 cases treated with Facial Acupuncture, 90% had marked effects with one course of treatment. Acupuncture has been treating and preventing illnesses for thousands of years. The efficacy of acupuncture is due to its direct effect on balancing the body’s bioelectric system.
Why should I choose Cosmetic Acupuncture over Cosmetic surgery?
Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is a holistic way to look and feel better without surgery. It costs far less than cosmetic procedures and is safe and effective. No extended recovery time is needed. Refresh your appearance while enhancing your overall health and wellbeing.
Can I have this treatment if I have had cosmetic surgery, Botox or injectable fillers?
Yes.
Acupuncture helps to speed healing and stimulates your natural collagen production and cell metabolism. We will work together to optimize your results and other procedures.
Botox: I recommend waiting 2 weeks after Botox before acupuncture on the face.
Cosmetic Fillers: The cosmetic-type injectable fillers take about 7-10 days to integrate into your skin’s collagen structure. We would work around the injected area during that timeframe.
Cosmetic Surgery: If you are having a surgical procedure, I recommend non-cosmetic acupuncture treatments before and after your surgery because this will increase your body’s healing mechanisms. Acupuncture before surgery will boost your immunity, and acupuncture post surgery will help speed your recovery while reducing swelling.
What does it treat?
My patients report the following results:
Improve firmness of your neck & face
Eliminate facial puffiness
Reduce bags around the eyes
Eliminate fine lines
diminish the appearance of deeper wrinkles
Improve metabolism
Increase collagen production & cell renewal
Balance hormones & reduce acne
Improve facial color and circulation
Reduce scars
Minimize double chins
Reduce stress in the face
Bring out your natural glow
Slow the aging process from within
Better sleep and energy
Used as early as the Sung Dynasty (960AD-1270AD), this procedure may eliminate as many as 5-15 years from the face. Your authentic glow will emerge as the treatment releases the cumulative stress, tension and emotions held in the face and body. More than just a cosmetic procedure; your whole body look and feel better.
Do I need to take time off work while undergoing treatment?
The treatments don’t require any downtime and many people come in on their lunch hour. If you are seeking treatment for a special occasion, I recommend completing your sessions 2-4 weeks ahead of your event. For individuals who are on blood thinners or bruise easily, Arnica gel/cream and pellets can help minimize bruising. Limiting sugar, processed foods and alcohol before and during treatment will lower inflammation systemically while reducing any chances of bruising.
Post Treatment Care
After treatment, please keep yourself protected from wind, and extreme temperature changes. Please rest, drink plenty of water and eat moderately.

Light Emitting Diode (LED) phototherapy is the application of light energy to tissue to obtain therapeutic benefits. The energy is used to improve cellular performance.
Phototherapy is known for its healing and anti-inflammatory properties and has a variety of applications across many medical fields. Research has shown that phototherapy can: increase circulation, accelerate tissue repair, decrease wrinkles, decrease inflammation, improve skin tone and wrinkles, texture and clarity, ease muscle and joint pain, stiffness, spasm and arthritis and kill acne bacteria, and much more.
How Does Light Energy work?
Specific wavelengths of light energy, when properly absorbed, up-regulates compromised cells. The light (photons) energy is absorbed by photoacceptors in the mitochondria and used to create adenosine triphosphate (ATP). The ATP produced then stimulates various metabolic processes which can result in the repair and regeneration of cell and tissue components. In an article, “Therapeutic Light” – by Chukuku S. Enwemeka, PT, PhD, FACSM, he wrote “other reported mechanisms of light-induced beneficial effects include modulation of prostaglandin levels, alteration of somatosensory evoked potential and nerve conduction velocity, and hyperemia of treated tissues. The resultant clinical benefits include pain relief in conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, bursitis, tendonitis, ankle sprain, and temporomandibular joint dysfunction, shoulder and neck pain, arthritis, and post-herpetic neuralgia, as well as tissue repair in cases of diabetic ulcer, venous ulcer, mouth ulcer, fractures, tendon rupture, ligamentous, tear, torn cartilage, and nerve injury.”
What is Celluma?
Celluma is unique and quite unlike any other low-level light therapy device available today. Based on NASA research, Celluma delivers blue, red and near-infrared light energy simultaneously to safely treat a wide variety of conditions. Each wavelength is absorbedby different molecules that act as a signaling mechanism for different cellular processes. For example, some reduce inflammation and some kill bacteria, while others enhance localized circulation.
Celluma LED Light Therapy is available as an add-on service to any treatment at Merulli Acupuncture & Wellness. Ask How Celluma May Benefit You & Your Family
